Amy Griffin is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, and educator based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Her practice bridges professional performance, tertiary dance education, and multidisciplinary choreography, with a passion for creating work that is both physically dynamic and artistically engaging.

Originally from Hawke's Bay, Amy began her performance career with Born to Move Dance Studio and The Encore Dancers, performing extensively at festivals, theatre productions, corporate functions, television appearances, and commercial events. Her early performance credits include the Napier Art Deco Festival, Air New Zealand Wine Awards, Art Deco Fashion Flaunt, Seven Sharp, and numerous cabaret productions, experiences that laid the foundation for her professional career.

Since relocating to Auckland, Amy has continued to build a diverse career across contemporary and commercial dance. Her professional credits include performing as a Planet Performer for Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour, motion capture performance for Vector Digital Technology, and collaborating with choreographer Alys Longley during a pre-performance residency connected to Judson Church in New York. She has also completed a secondment with Australian Dance Theatre and participated in artist development programmes with Identity Dance Company and Bindico.

Alongside her performance career, Amy has become an established educator within Aotearoa's dance community. She teaches contemporary, lyrical, jazz, tap, repertoire, and technique at The Dance Studio, is a Professional Teaching Fellow and Graduate Teaching Assistant within the Dance Studies programme at the University of Auckland, and previously lectured in jazz and contemporary technique at Excel School of Performing Arts.

As a choreographer, Amy creates contemporary and jazz works for secondary schools, tertiary institutions, and independent artists throughout New Zealand. She is also the founder of Release by Amy, an independent creative practice producing original choreographic works and multidisciplinary performance projects.

Amy holds a Master of Dance Studies with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland and was awarded the 2024 Fame Emerging Practitioner Award for Dance by The Acorn Foundation Trust. Whether performing, choreographing, or teaching, she brings curiosity, versatility, and a collaborative approach to every project.
