
Gema Whitford-Joynt is a powerhouse performer whose passion for dance ignited at an early age and has only grown stronger with time. A standout talent in both commercial and competitive dance, she brings a professional attitude to every job and is known for her versatility and strong stage presence.
From the age of 10, Gema has been a proud member of the all-girls crew Rebellious, earning a Bronze Medal at the HHI (Hip Hop International) World Championships—one of the most prestigious dance competitions in the world.
Her training pedigree includes working with some of the industry's elite choreographers, including Kiel Tutin, Isaiah Reid, Henk Tomkins, Joseph Asi and Todd Williamson, all of whom have helped shape her dynamic style and relentless work ethic.
Highlight live performances include Xmas in the Park, performing with Rebellious half time at the WNBA game in Phoenix, Arizona, dancing with NZ artist CHAII at the Aotearoa Music Awards and in her half time performance for JayPark’s K-pop concert in 2025, guest performing at Blueprint and ADCC events and dancing at the Kahu Basketball games in 2024/2025.
Gema had an acting role in a NZ short film called “Pack Rat” which has been successfully touring film festivals round the world receiving multiple awards and accolades. Gema was also part of the Disney Zombies 4 ensemble dance cast when they filmed in NZ in 2024.
As a graduate of the NZX Next Adult Training Programme, Gema has honed not only her technical skills but also her leadership and teaching abilities. She has been developing her choreography through competition pieces with more and more professional performance choreography being added to her skill set as opportunities arise.
Her love of dance is matched only by her passion for sharing it—Gema lights up when she teaches, inspiring dancers of all ages with her energy, precision, and creativity.
